Meeting the Ancient Bristlecone Pines, the Oldest Trees in the World.
Located in the White Mountains of California, the Bristlecone Pines (Pinus longaeva) have adapted over millennia to their harsh environment. The oldest known specimen, named Methuselah, is estimated to be 4,793 years old.
The dry and cold climate leads to extremely slow and dense growth, which accounts for the remarkable durability of this species. These trees are also capable of partially dying off to allow another part of the tree to thrive.
