Matjaz Tancic


 

Matjaž Tančič (b. 1982) is a lens-based artist working mainly on documentary and independent projects between China and Slovenia. His work explores the lines between documentary, portrait and art photography to engage with social and cultural issues. He likes to experiment within the photographic medium and is best known for his 3D stereography projects. Tančič holds a BA in photography from the University of the Arts, London. Currently he is working on a long-term project on global Mars exploration efforts and learning about the world of NFTs.

 His projects have been shown in solo and group exhibitions including: the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; Somerset House, London; Lumiere Brothers Gallery, Moscow; Vevey Photo Festival, Switzerland; the Hong Kong Photo Festival; Lianzhou Photo Festival, China; and the Venice Architecture Biennale, Italy. 

 Matjaž's work has been published in the New York TimesTime Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek, the Telegraph, the Guardian, Vice, Dazed and Confused, Der Spiegel, National Geographic, Vogue, and others. He has published three photo books: Timekeepers (2014), 3DPRK (2016), and WOW Taobao (2020).
