When there is nowhere else to go

Originated in Belgium, at a time where little was possible due to the strict covid measures. The absence of a social and public lifestyle resulted for many in wandering into parks and nature reserves. Encounters who flee the city for nature are either immersed in the heart of a familiar environment or welcome the wild for the first time. This led to many passers-by on my path, accidental encounters avoiding boredom, unconstrained from conventions and freed from their masks.

With a few exceptions, the nature reserves in Belgium are small and fragmented and suffering from numerous environmental problems. Flanders is one of the poorest forest areas in Europe and nevertheless there is a considerable biologically valuable area that enjoys little protection. This makes them sensitive to side effects of agriculture, traffic and industry.

This series documents the corona walker and his fragile but valuable refuge.
