Sugar Moon - Exhibition at Visa pour l'Image 2021 | Mélanie Wenger
After working for a decade on conservation issues, Photographer Melanie Wenger spent nearly four years documenting the schizophrenic hunting industry in the US through the story of Erik Grimland, a Texan rancher, professional hunter and former police officer, and his family. With 'Sugar Moon' she draws an intimate portrait of Trump's America and the Southern US culture at a time of deep identity crisis.
The story 'Sugar Moon' is being exhibited this month at the International Photojournalism Festival Visa Pour l'Image in Perpignan, France in Couvent des Minimes. It does not attempt to justify hunting, nor does it set out to condemn the practice, rather it tries to understand the complexities of hunting and exotic game industry, and details its in truths and contradictions.
The exhibition takes place at Couvent des Minimes from 28 August to 26 September 2021.
