CNAP grant recipient for contemporary documentary photography | Romain Philippon
Romain Philippon is a recipient of the CNAP (National Center for Visual Arts) grant for contemporary documentary photography.
His project, L'enfance coupable ("Guilty Childhood" in english) is a visual and sound investigation into APECA, an institution created in 1936 in Plaine des Cafres, Réunion Island. Over the years, APECA became a figure of fear, brandished by Réunion parents to enforce obedience. Now defunct, this reformatory, with its iron discipline, remains etched in the memories of those who experienced it, but shrouded in a cloud of popular contradictions. This photographic project aims to shed light on this institution through portraits, testimonies, archival material, and a series of mythical landscapes of the highlands of Réunion Island, interpreting memories and the imagination.
