Portrait story of Lasse Stolley for Zeit newspaper, Germany | Jana Margarete Schuler

For the German newspaper ZEIT, photographer Jana Margarete Schuler spent 24 hours with 18-year-old Lasse Stolley, who has lived on trains for over two years. The story was published alongside the words of Stella Schalamon.

With no permanent home or possessions, Stolley carries only a small backpack—containing a towel, neck pillow, laptop, and two identical yellow shirts. He never stays long at his stops: a quick ice cream in the lounge, freshening up in the restroom, and hopping onto the next train. At night, he curls up in an “L” shape on two seats, surrounded by the constant hum of the train. The lights stay on, the announcements echo. But for Stolley, this moving world is home.
