In the early 20th century, Blackpool was a popular destination for the English upper classes for its fresh sea air and its seawater with its so-called therapeutic properties. In the 1970s, with the industrial revolution and the development of the railway network, it became a popular tourist destination. At the end of the 80's, the opening of the first low-cost offers to sunny destinations combined with the economic crisis that raged in the north of England led Blackpool into a recession from which it would never recover.
The successive economic strategies to revive the activity for 40 years have shaped a surreal city where, in the middle of decrepit amusement parks, large numbers of elderly people, families among the poorest in the kingdom and young people from Liverpool or Manchester in search of cheap drunkenness mix.
