South Korea current political crisis, for the Wall Street Journal | Tim Franco

Photographer Tim Franco has been assigned by the Wall Street Journal, to report on the current political crisis in South Korea. On January 3, 2025, South Korean prosecutors attempted to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol at his official residence in Seoul. A tense six-hour standoff ensued after the Presidential Security Service, backed by hundreds of protestors blocked the operation, citing legal protections. This followed Yoon's impeachment over a failed attempt to impose martial law, plunging the country into political crisis. The arrest attempt's failure has deepened the turmoil, with further legal actions anticipated.
