Cabo Verde, the new drug hub ans its fight against climate change for Der Spiegel | Carmen Abd Ali

For Der Spiegel, Carmen Yasmine Abd Ali went to Praïa, Santiago Island in Cabo Verde to document how the archipelago fights against crime, dependency and instability due to its geographical situation making it the perfect transhipment point for drugs on the way from South America to Europe.

As Island states like Cabo Verde particularly suffer from the consequences of climate change, the country has recently signed a deal with the former colonial power Portugal : the 140 million euros in debts to the Portuguese state will be gradually released if the government in Praïa puts the amount into a climate fund. Also for Der Spiegel, Carmen went to discover how Cabo Verde plans to fight against the many threats of climate change on its territory.
