Speaker at the National Geographic Storytelling Summit | Mélanie Wenger

Photographer Mélanie Wenger was invited to speak at the #NatGeoStorySummit 2022 on January 26 during the 'Untold Stories' Featured Program about ‘Penguin Beach’.
Since 2019, she has been working on the last African penguin colony resisting extinction in Boulders, Cape Town in South Africa. Boulders' colony assembles all of the challenges conservation faces in Africa, where the species is confronted with overfishing, climate change and mass tourism. The colony has settled in an urban area, and with the spread of COVID-19, Mélanie used the opportunity to explore what happened when tourists left. Created with the help of @jon_monsoon @james_lowe_wildlife and Natgeo editor Alexa Keefe.
