Photographer Melanie Wenger's work on Chu’s Island was recently published in Figaro Magazine.
While South Africa is in the midst of a rhino war, Vietnam is now a major hub for both domestic and international wildlife trafficking.
How could Chu Dang Khoa, convicted for rhino horn trafficking in South Africa in 2011, have created a 147 million-dollar empire based on endangered species in the middle of the Pacific? How did these animals get there? It’s a mystery.

Chu’s Island is a quirky visual story depicting Asia’s conflictual relationship with wild animals via Vietnam’s first safari park, where the world’s largest number of endangered species are gathered.
