'Deforestation in Ghana' | Mélanie Wenger
Photographer Mélanie Wenger unveils the first chapter of her two-year investigation into timber trafficking and deforestation aimed at the European market in Tageszeitung TAZ. Collaborating with a cross-border team, writers Katharina Finke (Germany) and Nadjet Cherigui (France), and supported by Journalismfund Europe, Wenger explores how European regulations exacerbate the exploitation of Ghana's forests. Their work highlights the dire consequences for local operators and the environment, showcasing a pressing issue where legality and sustainability are at stake, in a time when new european regulation is to be implemented promising to make it worse.
